Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

I'm so happy that the holidays are quickly approaching as this is my favorite time of year.  I love spending time with family and decorating and getting in the holiday spirit.  Thanksgiving is Jesse's favorite holiday ever.  He starts talking about Thanksgiving around September and doesn't stop.  So needless to say Jesse will take full advantage of all the food tomorrow.

Our schedule tomorrow will consist of going to my in-laws to eat an early lunch around 11:30 am and then we will head to my parents around 2:00 pm for round two.  Jesse loves being able to eat Thanksgiving twice in one day!  This weekend I plan to do a little shopping and then it's time to decorate for Christmas.  I can't wait for Grady to see the tree.  We got our Christmas photos back so I'll post a few of my favorites...our photographer really captured Grady's personality in these and I absolutely love them!
Grady Update:
Grady LOVES Christmas lights!  The other night when we got home the people across the street had their lights on..he immediately pointed at them and said "ooooohhhhhh".  It is the cutest thing ever!  Grady's new favorite word is 'No'.  He's said no before but now it is over the top.  If you ask him something he says no to everything...sometimes its hard not to laugh.  He also likes to say 'owe' about everything.  If he bumps he hand, owe.  My mom was holding him at Babies R Us and he said 'owe' for no reason he really likes that word!  He also really loves his new room.  It isn't quite all the way decorated but once it is I will get some photos up.  He has more room, it's warmer, and he just loves to go in there and get out some toys and play. This is what Jesse and I wanted for him.  A place of his own and we wanted him to enjoy being in his room! Grady also loves gloves.  I picked up a few pairs from Wal-Mart to have on hand in case he wanted to go outside. I thought that it would be  struggle for him to keep them on but he loves them.  He will bring them to me and I"ll put them on and he'll wear them around the house.  It is too cute!

I hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Grady's New Room...Sneakpeak

So this weekend was busy as usual.  Thursday afternoon I went to the Dr. because I was experiencing a lot of pain in my upper abdomen area (if felt almost like a gallbladder attack but I don't have my gallbladder).  He checked my blood, saw a little infection, and stated that he thinks it is a kidney stone.  So I got some antibiotics and pain meds and headed home.  Friday I ended up leaving work early because I was in a lot of pain and very nauseous.  I slept most of the afternoon and was feeling ok enough to take Grady to the Holiday Extravaganza up town.  He had so much fun and loved to watch the horses go around the square.  We did a test run with Santa and waited in line for over an hour.  Grady did great and ate some snacks and drank his water while we stood in line.
Saturday morning I started painting Grady's room.  We have been wanting to move him into our spare bedroom for a few weeks now because the nursery gets too cold.  Before I ran some errands Saturday Grady and I ran to mom and dad's to take a few more things down to the shop to store.  Grady spotted his gator that his guncle and aunt Shelby got him so he had to try it out again.  Bear joined him..they are the best of friends and I love it!!  When I got back Saturday afternoon I painted a little more but we stopped when we spilled paint on the carpet.  I tried to get in out when did as much as I could do.  I ended up going to bed early because I was still in some pain.  Sunday morning Jesse woke up a little early and continued on with painting Grady's room.  I sent my dad a picture of the paint on the carpet and he came over to try and get more of it out (it's almost out!!) and he ended up helping Jesse and I finish Grady's room while my mom entertained Grady.
Sunday afternoon, after Grady's nap, my mom, Grady, and I ran to West Des Moines to pic up our family photos and to grad a few things for Grady's new room. The pictures turned out great!  Emily does such an amazing job and is so patient with Grady since he is at that age where he will not sit still for a picture!  Jesse put up the Christmas lights while we were out and Grady was so excited to see them when we got home!  So while Jesse was in the shower I started moving the big furniture from Grady's nursery to his new room.  So as I'm moving the 5 drawer tall dresser I go around to the other side and ram my baby toe into the queen size bed frame and I really think my toe is broken.  Grady is just staring at me while I yell in pain.  It really hurt and still hurts today and is bruised. So I have a broken toe on my left foot and my right ankle is having an arthritis flare up so I can barely put any weight on it.  Needless to say this last week has not been my week!  So after I yelled about my toe for a while I decided to suck it up and start moving the other dresser (it's very heavy).  Well, I got it halfway into the hallway and halfway in the room and it was stuck and so were Grady and I.  Luckily, my parents stopped by real quick so Grady and I yelled for help and said that we were "guck" (how Grady's says stuck).  Thankfully my dad and I got it moved into his new room.  So tonight we will be finishing it up and Grady will spend his first night in his new room!

Here is a sneak peak of his room before, during, and after.  (the lines are actually straight but I was taking a panoramic pic and couldn't keep the phone still enough).  Have a great Monday, I'll have family pics up on the blog tomorrow!

Organizing & Cleaning

Most of weekend we cleaned and start organizing our house.  Friday night my mom, dad, Grady, and I went to West Des Moines in search of a snowsuit and boots for Grady.  We struck out at Carters, Buy Buy Baby, and Babies R Us and finally found one at Kohls.  You could find me in Kohls running through the clothes trying to catch my wild child to try on the snowsuit.  Seriously...he is running through the aisles laughing hysterically while my parents just stand there and watch me run after him.  But we had a lot of fun and got snowsuit, boots, and matching hat with gloves.  Saturday we got up and went to the store to grab a few things.  As we were walking out Olaf was there.  Of course Grady wouldn't go up and touch Olaf by himself...I had to walk up with him but he did give Olaf a five and calls him "faffaff".  We got home had a late breakfast and watched the Hawks and cleaned all while playing with Grady.  Grady also watched the snow fall for the first time and was very excited about it.  After his nap I dressed him in his new stuff and we headed outside to play in the snow for the first time.  He loved the snow and even tried to taste it!  The funniest thing about him in the snow is he was walking like the kid in A Christmas Story.  He had his arms sticking straight out and when he fell he couldn't get up.  I was laughing pretty hard so his Guncle had to save him.

Saturday night I left Grady home with Jesse and I went to dinner with my cousin; it was great to catch up and just talk.  Sunday we started cleaning and I decided to rearrange our bedroom so that I could get started on Grady's new room.  The way our room was arranged before had the TV on the wall that we share with the spare bedroom and you can hear the TV through the wall.  Grady will be moving into the spare room (hopefully this coming weekend) so I wanted to have our bedroom situated so that I could start on his.  His new room will be Monster's Inc themed and will be bigger so I'm excited for that.
Olaf cup and shirt and a bowl on his head!

Grady look at mommy and say "cheese".  "Cheese"

Operation Bridesmaid

Sunday was pretty low key but we did have family pictures.  Grady did pretty well and I'm excited to see the results.  I was able to get one picture snapped (not very good).  So Dustin and Shelby came over on Sunday night because they had a 'surprise' for Grady.  Just so everyone knows Grady is spoiled rotten by everyone; including both grandparents, his Uncles and Aunt Shelby and of course his mommy and daddy.  But we wouldn't want it any other way!  We will raise him to appreciate everything that he gets so that he won't take it for granted.  So Guncle and Shelby walked in and asked Grady and I to go outside to look in the garage.  My brother had gotten him a John Deere battery powered gator.  Grady LOVED it!  He didn't want to come back inside.  He will need to grow into it and my brother needs to turn down the speed but I think Grady will be ready for it next summer.

he loves his guncle and cried when he left.
So after we cam back inside Shelby said she had something for me.  I was thrown off as to why she would get me anything.  So she handed me this really cute rustic box and told me to open it.  On the side I pulled out a flower with some circles with pictures and writing hanging from the flower.  There was a picture of Dustin and Shelby and one of Shelby, Grady, & I.  The writing said, "We're getting married.  It's going to be the best day ever.  Only if it includes you.  Will you be my bridesmaid?"  Oh course I said yes!  I'm very excited and now have more motivation to continue to lose weight.  I have been going to the gym 4-5 nights a week and we have been eating pretty healthy.  I feel a lot better now that I've been exercising and I know it isn't easy to lose weight but I am determined and I have the support needed.  So I'm ready to get my butt in gear!!

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

I Haven't Forgotten You!

I know it has been a while and no I haven't forgotten to blog.  Life has been busy so I've been playing catch-up. Grady is officially 16 months old as of yesterday and I can't believe how fast time has gone.  I posted a picture on instagram yesterday of the day he was born and compared to yesterday at 16 months old.
He has quite the personality and is very silly.  Some new things he has been doing have included saying "cheese" when I take his picture, when he sits at the table (in his high chair) he can't have his socks one so we always have to take them off for him (yes, it's strange),  His favorite foods right now include cuties (mandarin oranges) and cheese.  He loves to drink from a cup that has a straw and he uses a fork and spoon.  He also loves to sit at his table to eat a snack or drink his milk.  He is still such a ham and we laugh so much with him around.  I'm so happy that I was chosen to be his mama.

Weightloss...Hard to Break Habits

First off, this is a sensitive subject for me but I want to document my struggles and I want something to hold me accountable.  I'm happy to say that I have officially started my weight loss journey.

Weight has always been an issue for me and I've struggled since I was 14 years old.  I've dieted for most of life and just recently tried to take control and quit 'dieting' and make it a lifestyle change.  I want to set a good example for Grady (and any future kids we have) because I believe that healthy eating starts young.  Since having Grady I have made better choices with what I buy at the grocery store and make better choices for what to make for dinner.  We try not to do to many "boxed" meals and eat more fresh but some nights it's really hard!  So now that I have my eating under control I have decided to workout.  Working out isn't anything new to me, I've done it for years.  But how I exercise is what has had to change.  I can't just go out and run.  It's hard on my joints and I need something that is going to be better on them!

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis when I was 19 and in my sophomore year of college.  My first rheumatologist told my dad and I that I wouldn't play softball again.  Well that pissed me off so I worked my butt off to prove them wrong and I did!  But in order to play ball I was put on some strong medicine and also had to take the steroid prednisone for well over a year to help me get through the pain.  For those of you that have been on prednisone it is not a pretty medicine.  Yes, it helps with the pain but the side affects are awful.  It caused me to gain a lot of weight and completely changed my attitude, making me very sensitive and cranky!  There are people who think, 'oh, it's arthritis, take some Tylenol and it will be fine'.  Well I wish it were that easy.  RA, as it is called, is an autoimmune disease that attacks your own body's tissues.  I have it all throughout my body and it can flare up at any moment.  There are also other things that RA can cause: stiff joints, fatigue, dry eyes (which is really annoying when you have been wearing contacts most your life), suppressed immune system and a range of other thing.  So I'm not just dealing with stiff joints!

I have talked about losing the weight for years and have the support but have always looked for excuses not to exercise.   Well I have put the excuses aside and started working out on Monday.  Now, I know it's only Wednesday but I feel good about it this time and I have somebody to workout with.  My soon to be sister-in-law is also working out so we have joined forces to keep each other accountable and to have a workout buddy.  Shelby (my soon to be sister-in-law) is marrying my brother next September and Grady's godmother, Ashley, is getting married next August.  So I have a lot of work to do in a short amount of time!  It's a great incentive to have something to look forward to and have a goal in mind.

I will give updates periodically about my weight loss.  I have a few short term goals set but haven't put an ending goal together.

Weekend Recap

Our weekend wasn't too eventful.  Friday night we relaxed at home (which was a first) and played with Grady.  Saturday morning we got up, had breakfast, and headed to the barber shop.  Grady needed a trim and Jesse needed his haircut.  Grady did pretty well but his new thing to say is "ow!".  If he doesn't like something he says "ow!".  It is adorable!

Saturday I went to the craft show in Ankeny.  I got a few things and got some Christmas ideas for some others in the family.  I love craft shows!  So we will be going to the craft show at the State Fair here in a couple of weeks!  When I got home Grady just got up from a nap so we headed to Wal-Mart to return a few things.  Saturday night we relaxed and Sunday we got up early to have breakfast and head to church.  Grady went to nursery while Jesse and I attended the service.  We will see how next week goes at nursery.  He cried most of the time so he may be sitting in the pew with us from now on. We got home from church and start re-arranging and cleaning the house.  I wanted to get the furniture moved around so that we don't have to do it when we get ready to get the tree out.  Grady helped clean (he loves the swiffer so I always put a new one on and he goes around the house and swiffer's the floor)! Once Grady went down for a nap I ran to Des Moines to do a little Christmas shopping.  Yes...you heard me right!  Grady is officially done for Christmas!!  I'm so excited to have most of shopping done early so that I can really enjoy my weekends and try to get stuff done around the house.

Grady Update:
Grady is going to be 16 months old in about a week.  I simply can't believe it!  He has been talking a lot more lately, learning new words, and starting to be more independent.  His new words include: ow!, down (when he wants down when you are holding him), done (when he is done eating), moooon (he discovered the moon last week), Jesse and I got him to say doughnut on the way out of church, and he has been saying "peas" (please) when I ask him too.

Have a great Monday!
