Weekend Recap

What a busy weekend we had.  Lots of stuff to do around town and we had some things that had to get done before this next weekend.  I thought about my mom a lot this weekend and how much she has missed.  I thought about the conversations we would be having and I miss those so much.  There is nothing like sitting up late talking with your mom about everything and nothing...I miss that terribly.

We had a busy weekend so there are LOTS of pictures!

Thursday night my dad and I took Grady to the fair.  It was going to be the coolest night that the fair was going on so I thought he would enjoy seeing the 'manimals' (animals) and ride on some rides.  Grady had so much fun looking at the 'moo-moos', horses, sheep, pigs, and bunnies...he kept saying 'again, again'.  We grabbed a bite to eat and then headed over to ride the 2 rides he could ride.  Most of the rides you had to be at least 36 inches tall and most of those wouldn't allow parents to ride as well.  So Grady and I rode the carousel a few times as well as the big slide.  He got to play one game, where you pick the little rubber duck from a pool and you win a prize...he won a blow up hammer, he was THRILLED.  We grabbed some home made ice cream on the way out and headed home to 'nuggle' before bed.
I love the lighting on this one...I'm sure it's my mom shining down.

Friday I picked Grady up from daycare and we headed to West Des Moines to do some shopping.  I had a few returns that I needed to have done and I had to grab some things for Ashley's wedding coming up this weekend.  Grady did great and we didn't get home until 9:00 pm Friday night.  Sometimes it is just nice to have some quality one on one time with your son.  He was in a great mood the entire night!  We grabbed some ice cream and he got a new Nike hat...he talked to me the entire was home!  But when we got home he had to 'nuggle' with his daddy and mommy and watch 'Mouse' before he could go to bed.  I tell you that kid knows how to negotiate.

Saturday we slept in for a while and got up and started picking up the house.  Grady, my dad, and I headed up town around 10:30 am to see the vendors up town and to watch the Balloon parade.  Grady got to jump in a bounce house (I sweat he can spot them from a mile away).  He had some rootbeer before the parade and then got some candy.  The A&W bear was in the parade and Grady was not scared of him at all.  He went running up to him to give him a was too cute!  When we got home Jesse and I cleaned out both vehicles (while Grady 'baccuumed') and moved stuff out to the storage shed.  While Jesse ran to Subway, Grady, Baloo, and I played in Grady's tee-pee.  Lunch and then bedtime for Grady and Jesse and I continued on with picking up the garage and then I headed to Scooter's football camp to watch him play around 3:00 pm.  They had a break for a few hours so I headed back home to do some more organizing/cleaning.  Grady woke up from his nap and we headed to Fareway to grab some stuff for dinner and a few other items.  By the time we got done with dinner Grady and I headed back over to Simpson to watch the boys play King of the Hill...Indianola WON!!  Grady had fun watching his guncle play and was dancing to the music.

King of the Hill Champs!
Sunday we woke up early due to Baloo being scared of the thunder.  Jesse made us breakfast and we immediately went downstairs to start organizing and doing laundry.  We got a bunch of stuff put away and our laundry is getting closer to being caught up.  Grady played downstairs and watched 'Mouse' while we cleaned.  I couldn't believe how much we got done!  My dad stopped by and was at Wal-Mart and thought Gardy needed a bicycle.  Grady was thrilled and he pedals it really well.  He calls it his 'dirt bike' and he has to "charge it" so that he can ride it (it's a real bike with pedals, no battery).  I let him ride his bike for a while and then put him down for his nap. I headed back to Simpson to watch more football for most of the afternoon.  Once football was over I headed back home to do more laundry and grab Grady so we could go to the store.  We grilled out at my parents' house with my brother and Shelby and Grady got asked to be a ring bearer in their wedding.  He received a ring pop and he was thrilled!!!  Just as we were done eating the balloons came over the house; Grady was in awe by them and I love this time of year!
his new 'dirt bike' as he calls it!
We headed home around 8:30 pm and Grady went to bed and I did one last load of laundry and went to bed myself.  It was a great weekend but so busy!  We will have a busy week this week and then head to Minnesota for Grady to be a ring bearer in Ashley's weeding...don't worry, I'll take plenty of pictures!  Have a great week!

Do you have those moments when reality sneaks up and bites you right in the ass?  These moments sneak up on me when I least expect it and it completely shatters me.  I try to keep myself as busy as possible so that I can avoid the hurt and pain the loss of my mom has caused me.  It's not something you can ever prepare for and it's harder than hell to recover from.

I spent most of the weekend with my dad helping him organize the house and rearrange things.  Being with my dad is important as I like to keep him busy because I know this is really hard for him too.  Seeing the pain and hurt in my dad's eyes absolutely kills me because I know that I can't take it away.  I think that my dad is struggling more than he will let on because he is supposed to be the 'strong' one.  Seeing him breakdown absolutely kills me but I know he needs too grieve to get through this.  Sometimes I wish I could just pack up and leave for a while....clear my head, sit on a beach, and just relax and not think about the last 7 weeks.

I appreciate everyone letting me vent and grieve through this means more than you will ever know.  I'm going to have lots of bad days and I know the good days will come....I'm just waiting.
I miss you mom...more than you will ever know.

Grady's Mickey Mouse Birthday

Grady had a great birthday party.  The only thing missing was my mom but we got through the day.  Grady received tons of presents (yes, he was majorly spoiled) and we got to spend the day with family and friends.

I had been planning Grady's birthday party probably since last December.  I love to plan parties and love everything to be customized (I get this from my Grandma Berndt).  I will have to say that it was hard to plan Grady's birthday without my mom.  My mom wasn't one to really plan but I loved the moral support and she always had some good input and ideas.

Last year we did a monster theme and I bought most of it off Etsy so it would be unique.  I had planned to do the same this year with a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse theme.  Well, when my mom passed away I just didn't have the emotional energy to do it and I ran out of time, so I went to Party City and bought everything.  I loved how it turned out and loved that everything matched. I was able to have a customized 'chalk' board made and his onesie and shorts were customized.  I also had a mommy and daddy shirt made for Jesse and I.   I loved how they all turned out.  (Don't worry, I already have the theme picked out for next year!!)

Grady had so much fun opening presents and playing with the kids.  He would just walk up to the table and help himself to the fruit and dip.  He loved to eat the 'bones' (what he called the Scooby snacks for the dip).  He kept saying, 'mommy, more bones' took me a while to figure out what he was talking about...he is such a character.  After each present he would open he would say 'thank you' and then want that present opened right away.  He wasn't sure what do think when we started singing to him...I almost lost it at this point; a mixture of missing my mom and realizing that my baby boy is growing up.

Hope you all have a great weekend!
