2016 Night Eyes: Blank Park Zoo

Another Night Eyes is in the books...and as usual Grady had so much fun.  This year we decided to go the weekend because Melanie, her daughter Tianna, her mom and nieces were going to be going with us.  We thought weekend would be good because it starts at 1:00 and runs all the way until 8:00.  Well we got there around 5:00 pm and it WAS PACKED!!!  Like crazy busy, we took a shuttle from where we parked to the front.  When we got in the kids had tons of fun.
Poor Grady was surround by girls but he didn't mind one bit.  Each of the girls loved him so much and they all looked after him.  He had to show off a few times for Addie though (she's four).  We rode the train, the girls rode the camels, we met super heros, we touched the goats, Grady ate popcorn, the kids got TONS of candy, and we got to see the lion, tiger, and leopards moving around.  It was so much fun and as usual I took too many pictures!
Next year we decided we are going during the week!  Have a great Monday!

Weekend Recap

I"m a little late on posting what we did last weekend, I need to get better about blogging.  It's something I LOVE to do but seem to put it on the back burner.  So here we are Thursday and I'm blogging!!

Last weekend was a fun and busy.  Friday I picked Grady up a little early from daycarea nd we met my Dad at Theisens to get some dog food and Grady wanted to look at tractors.  We then ran to Wal-Mart to get a few groceries and Grady and I picked out a few pumpkins to decorate.  While at Wal-Mart Grady decided he wanted to make brownies and put fudge frosting on them with sprinkles...so that's what we did Friday night.  It was pretty relaxed and Grady finally went to bed around 9:00 pm.

Saturday we all slept in until 9:00...I couldn't believe it, no of us ever sleep that long so that was nice. Grady and I got ready to head to Ames and left around 10:15 am.  We did a little shopping at Gap Factory (my child is in desperate need of clothes for fall/winter) and then stopped at Kohls and TJ Max.  Melanie and Tianna met us there at the mall and we did some more shopping, had lunch, and T and Grady rode a train a few times and these animals that you drove around the mall.  Donna came down later to meet us and then we headed to Valley West and Jordan Creek to eat dinner and run a few more errands.  Grady did GREAT all day with no nap.  He didn't have any accidents and pooped twice in the potties (my child has a phobia about going poop in different places other than home)! We finally got home around 9:00 pm...we were wiped out!

Side Note: Melanie has been a part of my life for about 10 years now (I've know here pretty well the last six).  I knew her parents growing up as they are a part of the Buckeye community and they were friends with my grandparents. I started to get to know her better when my Grandpa got sick.  She was there to help us take care of him.  She did so much for us and I will forever be grateful for that.  Since then we have kept in touch and she has been a sister that I never had.  We have the same interests and get a long great.  I'm so thankful to have her in my life!!

Sunday morning came and I slept in but the boys were up early playing.  We went to my parents house to help my dad put some stuff away and get some of the outside ready for winter.  We grabbed lunch and then started cleaning out our garage and putting Grady outside toys away.  Around 1:00 pm Grady started crying and was inconsolable.  So I took him upstairs for a nap.  He didn't want any clothes on except for his pull-up so I put him down and he fell right to sleep.  I went back up to check on him around 4:30 pm and woke him up but he had a fever of 102.  He ended up sleeping for another hour after I gave him some medicine.  By the time he was ready for bed the fever was gone and he was acting fine!  I let him sleep in Monday morning just to be sure and he has been fine all week!

I hope you all have a great rest of the week and weekend coming up!

Center Grove Orchard 2016

We continued with our yearly tradition this weekend of going to Center Grove Orchard.  I stumbled upon the website a few years ago and we decided to try it with Grady.  He was about 15 months old when we took him the first time and he had so much fun that we decided this is something that we would do as a family for years to come.
If that isn't a look of orneriness I don't know what is!

Sunday morning we started out with breakfast at Hy-Vee and then headed to Center Grove.  We knew it was going to be busy today but I had never seen it that busy before.  Luckily it's so big and spread out that it didn't seem to bad.  We started off in the corn pool where Grady played.  His favorite thing to do was to jump off the hay bales and jump into the corn.  Next, we headed over to the farm animals where Grady could feed the goats.  There was a little baby goat and Grady knelt down and would say, 'here baby goat, here baby'.  It was too cute!  He also tried to hug the goats but they didn't seem to like that so much! This year was the first time that we did the Discovery barn where you go through and pick an egg, dig out a potato, pull a carrot, grab some corn, and pick an apple.  It's very interactive for toddlers and Grady had so much fun picking everything out and then putting it back where it goes.
We stopped for a photo op by the red barn and then headed to get our apple cider slushies. Grady LOVES these...and basically drank a whole one by himself.  Grady went through the toddler hay maze, jumped, on the jumping pillow, and rode on the hop-a-long horses.  We then went down the big slide...we always take video of this and it's fun to go back and look at the old videos and to see how much he has always loved the slides!

Once we were done in that area we headed back over to get on the tractor to go to the pumpkin patch.  Our first stop on the way to the pumpkin patch was to ride the new train.  Grady has had an obsession with trains and tractors for as long as I can remember.  So when he found out that there was a train at Center Grove this year he was so excited.  We took the train ride, Grady went down the combine slide, and then Jesse and Grady rode the toddler farm train.  Once we were done there we headed back on the tractor and went down to the pumpkin patch.  Grady and Jesse picked out some pumpkins and some small gourds and we headed back to The Country Store.  We decided to grab a late lunch and get some goodies for home.

By the time we got home we were all exhausted...but we had a great time and we can't wait to go back next year!
